Introduction
This Forms part of the Atlantic Corridor.
This project is part of the Government’s stated policy in Transport 21 which prioritises the building of an N15 N17 N18 N20 N25 Atlantic Corridor linking Letterkenny to Waterford via Sligo, Tuam, Ennis, Limerick, Mallow & Cork.

The NRA decided that the Cork to Limerick route is one logical segment of that undertaking. This is reasonable given that both the Limerick end and the Cork end have well developed road systems about cities capable of absorbing the improved road into the local traffic infrastructure.

The overall project is divided into three, N20 Blarney to Mallow, N20 Mallow to Croom and N20 Croom to Patrickswell. Cork County Council is the lead Authority for the overall scheme. The lead Consulting Engineer will be in charge of the middle project as it will be necessary for that firm to co-ordinate the tying together of the overall Cork Limerick project.

Procurement of consultants for the N20 Mallow to Croom Scheme began in mid 2007.
