Welcome to West Cork Greenways – Bandon Sections information page. Here you will find information about the West Cork Greenway Project as well as the projects current activities.
Project Background
Cork County Council are in the early stages of developing a Greenway between Crossbarry, Bandon and Clonakilty with a link to Timoleague. This project, which is funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), will provide a Greenway servicing the Bandon, Clonakilty and Timoleague hinterlands. RPS were appointed by Cork County Council in February 2024 to provide multi-disciplinary consultancy services to progress the project through the design and planning stages, following Phases 1-4 of the TII Project Management Guidelines.
To date the following Public Consultations took place:
- Public Consultation No.1 – Concept and Feasibility (May to June 2024)
- Public Consultation No. 2 – Route Corridor Options (April to June 2025)
What’s Happening Now
This project is currently at Phase 2 Option Selection. The purpose of Phase 2 is to evaluate and appraise in further detail the route corridor options, to identify the emerging preferred route corridor option, in line with the TII project management guidelines. The project is presented in three sections for evaluation:
- Section 1 – Crossbarry to Bandon
- Section 2 – Bandon to Clonakilty, with a possible link to Enniskeane
- Section 3 – Ballinascarthy or Clonakilty to Timoleague
- Link from Clonakilty to Inchydoney Island
A multi criteria analysis of the route corridor options for each section will be undertaken in line with the Department of Transport, Transport Appraisal Framework (TAF) and TII Project Appraisal Guidelines (PAG).
Public Consultation No.2 which displayed the potential route corridor options was held from the 22nd of April until the 2nd of June 2025. The post public consultation report will be uploaded to the project website at the end of October 2025. Link to project website below.
Looking ahead, the team currently has no timeframe confirmed for Public Consultation N0.3 which would be the publication of the Emerging Preferred Route Corridor.
